llms.txt generator

Use this llms.txt generator to build an editable file from a website, XML sitemap or pasted page list. Organize sections, review descriptions, then copy or download the Markdown.

Draft source

We read the domain root, sitemap and homepage links. Up to 12 pages in the draft, with metadata reads for up to eight.

llms.txt is a community proposal. Assistant support varies; a valid file cannot guarantee recommendations.

An llms.txt file gives agents a short introduction to a website and links to useful pages. This tool builds a draft from public pages or checks an existing file against the llmstxt.org proposal. You can edit and download the draft. Assistant support varies, and publishing the file cannot guarantee citations or rankings.

How to use this tool

Enter your website
Use a public HTTP or HTTPS website. We check the domain root, even if you enter a page URL. Generate reads the homepage, sitemap.xml and sitemap locations in robots.txt. It follows at most two additional sitemaps, selects up to 12 same-site pages and reads metadata for up to eight of them.
Curate the draft
Keep the pages that explain your business or documentation best. Edit the title, summary, sections and link descriptions in the Markdown editor. Metadata is copied from your site, not written by AI. Pages without confirmed metadata need your review. If you publish Markdown versions, link to those actual URLs rather than guessing a .md address.
Publish and check
Download the draft as llms.txt and upload it to your website root. Validate fetches /llms.txt and the optional /llms-full.txt, checks the short file’s format and tests its first 20 unique public HTTP links. The format check also works on pasted text in your browser. Files above 96 KiB are marked incomplete.

Questions, answered

No recommendation, citation or ranking is guaranteed. llms.txt is a community proposal for guiding agents to useful content. Support and behavior vary by assistant and product. A successful format or HTTP check does not prove that an assistant uses the file.

The first heading must be an H1 containing the project or site name. It is the only required section. A summary blockquote, explanatory text and H2 sections containing Markdown link lists are optional. We separate format errors from advice about useful additions. A section named Optional conventionally holds secondary links.

No. Some sites provide llms-full.txt as an expanded content file. The llmstxt.org format describes llms.txt, so we report the full file’s availability and size limit without applying the short file’s structure rules to it. A missing full file is not an llms.txt format error.

No. robots.txt describes crawler access rules, and a sitemap lists pages for discovery. llms.txt provides a curated introduction and references. It neither grants access nor overrides crawler restrictions. Use the AI crawler checker to inspect access separately.

Only HTTP 404 and 410 are labeled broken. Other error responses are shown as restricted or server errors. Timeouts, private destinations and network failures remain unverified. Requests have a ten-second ceiling, including redirects. Links beyond the first 20 and truncated files are explicitly marked as outside the complete check.

The website address is sent to our API so it can read public pages. We do not ask a model to generate text. Successful results can be held in memory for five minutes, and requests are limited to ten per hour per IP address. Pasted text and draft edits stay in this page and are lost when you reload. Copy or download them before leaving.
