Monthly recurring revenue is the sum of what active subscribers pay each month, with yearly plans divided by 12. Forty customers paying 49 a month and 10 paying 990 a year give an MRR of 2,785 and an ARR of 33,420. Net new MRR is new plus expansion minus contraction and churn.

How to use this tool

Bring each plan to a month
MRR = sum of customers × monthly price, with yearly prices divided by 12. Leave out one time fees and customers still in a free trial. ARR = MRR × 12.
Back out last month
Net new MRR = new + expansion - contraction - churned MRR, using the movement types ChartMogul Help defines: new business, expansion (upgrades), contraction (downgrades and discounts) and churn (cancellations). MRR a month ago = MRR today - net new MRR.
Read the ratios

Questions before you start

Yes, divided by 12. A customer paying 1,200 a year adds 100 to MRR each month, even though the money arrives once. Cash timing belongs in the burn rate calculator.

MRR counts only the recurring part of active subscriptions, brought to a monthly figure. Revenue in your accounts also includes one time fees and services, and follows accounting rules for when it is earned.

The MRR you added from new and expanding customers was larger than the MRR you lost to contraction and churn that month. Below 1, recurring revenue shrank.
