WHOIS lookup

Use this WHOIS lookup to read a domain's registrar, dates, status codes, nameservers and DNSSEC from RDAP. Inspect the raw response and IANA source dates.

Free, no account. Ten lookups per hour, shared with our other domain checks.

We send the domain to our API, which asks the official registry. Answers are kept for ten minutes.

A WHOIS lookup reads public domain registration data through RDAP. This checker follows the IANA bootstrap to the registry and linked registrar. It shows dates, status explanations, nameservers, DNSSEC and published abuse contacts, with raw JSON and source dates. Redacted identity stays unknown. When RDAP is unavailable, use the registry lookup link.

How to use this checker

Enter a domain
Type a domain such as example.com, or paste a full address. We look up the registered domain, so www.example.com and shop.example.com both show the record for example.com.
Read the record
The registry’s record comes first. A linked registrar record fills missing fields without replacing registry facts. Each status code has a plain explanation and an ICANN source link. Open the raw response to inspect exactly what was returned.
Endings without RDAP
Where RDAP is absent or unusable, we link the registry lookup for the relevant country, including our eleven language markets. Unsupported RDAP does not mean a domain is available.

Questions about this checker

A public RDAP record may redact personal contact data or publish a privacy service in place of the owner. This checker labels explicit redaction separately from data that simply was not published. It cannot reveal hidden identity information.

Both publish domain registration data. RDAP is the newer protocol: it answers in structured data over HTTPS, and ICANN now treats it as the official source for generic endings. Many people still call any registration lookup a WHOIS lookup.

Those registries publish no public RDAP service we can use, and DENIC limits its RDAP to technical needs. The result links the registry’s own lookup page, where you can read the record yourself.

The registry updates the record when your registrar changes something, such as a renewal or new name servers. We keep each answer for ten minutes, so a change you just made can take a few minutes to appear here.
