Domain age checker

Use this domain age checker to read registration age and expiry countdown from RDAP, then check the earliest available Wayback homepage capture. The two dates stay separate.

Free, no account. Ten lookups per hour, shared with our other domain checks.

We send the domain to our API, which asks the official registry. Answers are kept for ten minutes.

A domain age checker measures time since the RDAP registration date and shows days until published expiry. This tool separately queries Wayback for the earliest available successful homepage capture. That first seen date is archive evidence and does not establish registration or business launch. Missing dates and unavailable archive responses stay unknown.

How to use this checker

Enter a domain
Type the domain or paste a full address. We check the registered domain, because its subdomains share its registration date.
Read the dates
Registration age uses the RDAP registration event, never an update or transfer date. Missing dates stay unknown. Expiry countdown uses the published expiration event and is not proof that a renewal has failed.
Read the archive separately
Wayback first seen is the earliest available successful capture of the domain homepage. A deleted and re-registered domain can have archive captures older than its current registration. No capture returned does not prove that a website never existed.

Questions about this checker

Not because of its age. Google’s John Mueller has said publicly that domain age helps nothing. An older site may rank well because over the years it has built content and earned links, and a newer domain can do the same.

Since March 2024, Google’s spam policies name expired domain abuse: buying an expired domain to host low value content that rides on its old reputation. Choose a domain for its name and its audience.

Registration can precede launch by years. The separate archive date is when Wayback first captured a successful response from the homepage in its available index. Captures can be missing, excluded or removed; neither date establishes when a business started.

Some country registries publish no public RDAP service we can use. The result links the registry’s own lookup page, where you can read the record yourself.
