GEO (generative engine optimization)

Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of improving a business’s visibility in answers produced by generative AI systems. Work can include clearer content, accurate business information and useful evidence that other sites reference. Success is measured in observed answers, with the assistant, question, date and search settings recorded.

Why it matters for a business

A buyer can discover suppliers through an assistant before visiting a website. An owner needs to know which buying questions produce a mention and whether the answer describes the business accurately. Publishing more pages alone does not establish that the right customers can find you.

Example and evidence

The AIGROW Index asks buyer questions and records the businesses named by each assistant. Its report compares repeated answers and disagreement between assistants. These are observations of visibility, not evidence that a particular content change caused a recommendation.

What to do next

Choose a small set of genuine buying questions. Record a baseline, correct missing or conflicting service details, then repeat the same questions with the same settings. Keep a record of enquiries alongside mentions so that increased visibility is not mistaken for increased sales.

Common question

No. Assistants choose their own answers, and results can change between runs. A measurement establishes what happened in that sample. It does not establish a permanent position or a guaranteed recommendation.
