Brand mention

A brand mention is an occurrence of a business or product name in a piece of content. In AI visibility measurement, it usually means the name appears in an assistant’s answer. A mention can be positive, neutral or negative. It does not require a citation and does not by itself establish that the assistant recommended the brand.

Why it matters for a business

Name recognition is useful only in context. A comparison may mention a business while advising against it. Owners should check the surrounding wording, identity match and buying question before treating a mention count as a commercial success.

Example and evidence

The Index’s recommendation rate counts answered tests that name a business. That metric captures observed naming in its buyer-question sample. It does not measure customer purchases or promise that every sentence about the business is accurate.

What to do next

Check the full answer and confirm which business the name identifies. Record mentions separately from citations and, where your method supports it, recommendations. Maintain a stable counting rule for repeated names and shortened names.

Common question

No. Repetition is not evidence of suitability. Clear identity, accurate service information and useful independent references are more meaningful for customers. The outcome still needs to be checked in actual assistant answers.
