Favicon generator

Use this favicon generator for an image, initials or emoji. Download browser icons, maskable app icons and installation files. Your image stays in your browser.

Free, no sign-up. Your images never leave your browser.

Create your website icon

Use one to four characters, or one emoji. Simple shapes are easier to recognise at 16 pixels.

Fit the whole image or crop from its centre. Padding adds space around your image. Apple touch icons have an opaque background. Images stay in your browser; re-encoding removes EXIF metadata.

Google requires at least 8 × 8 px and recommends larger than 48 × 48 px. The tags include a 192 px PNG. Allow crawling and keep the icon URL stable; search display is not guaranteed. Google favicon guidance

Check the favicon declared by a live page

This optional check sends the public page URL to our existing safe website reader. Your source image is never sent. It reads the first declared icon from HTML; it does not fetch the icon or validate every platform.

A favicon identifies your website in tabs, bookmarks and search results. Create one from an image, text or emoji, then download PNGs, a multi-size ICO, separate maskable icons, a webmanifest and HTML tags. Images stay in your browser. Preview platform masks and optionally read a public page for its declared favicon through our safe website reader.

How to use this tool

Choose the source
Upload a JPEG, PNG, WebP or browser-decodable AVIF, or enter one emoji or up to four characters. Pick a background colour, shape and font. Fit the whole image or crop from the centre. Add padding to keep details away from the edges. Apple touch icons have an opaque square background. Inspect the small preview because fine details often disappear in a tab.
Download the icons
PNG files are generated at 16, 32, 48, 96, 180, 192 and 512 pixels. The ICO contains PNG-encoded 16, 32 and 48 pixel entries for tab and bookmark icons. The 180 pixel file is the Apple touch icon. The 192 and 512 pixel files are manifest icons for browsers that use them when installing a site. Separate opaque maskable icons at those sizes keep the artwork inside the minimum safe circle. Preview a circle, rounded square or the safe area, then download the complete ZIP.
Install and check
Save the files at your website root and paste the downloaded link tags into the HTML head. Change paths if you store icons elsewhere. The manifest is an icon snippet, not a complete installable app. Keep the favicon URL stable, allow crawling and check the deployed files. Google recommends an icon larger than 48 pixels, so the tags also include the 192 pixel PNG. The optional live check uses the existing safe HTML reader to find a declared icon URL. It does not fetch icon bytes or validate all platform icons. Search display is not guaranteed.

Google Search Central favicon requirements

Questions before you start

As checked on 11 October 2026, Google Search Central requires a square favicon of at least 8 by 8 pixels and recommends larger than 48 by 48. This generator includes 48 and 192 pixel PNGs. Googlebot-Image needs access to the icon and Googlebot to the home page. Eligibility does not guarantee display.

The SVG uses a system font and live text. Fonts and emoji artwork can differ between devices. PNG and ICO keep the pixels generated here. Use those raster files if you need the appearance to stay the same. SVG is a browser option; the HTML also supplies a PNG fallback for Google Search.

This tool accepts JPEG, PNG, WebP and AVIF where decoded by the browser. SVG uploads are excluded. Raster icons use a single frame and discard EXIF metadata. An SVG is provided only for a text or emoji source.
