Image compressor

Use this image compressor to aim under a size limit, compare quality and download a batch ZIP. Your images never leave your browser.

JPEG, PNG, WebP and AVIF where supported. Up to 20 files, 20 MiB each, 80 MiB per batch.

Lower quality usually makes a smaller file. Check the preview for detail loss.

EXIF and GPS are stripped by default. Re-encoding also removes animation and embedded colour profiles.

Output is capped at 4 megapixels and 4096 pixels per side. Actual dimensions are shown for every file. No files are uploaded.

An image compressor reduces file size by re-encoding pixels. Set a quality ceiling or a target such as under 100 KB, compare actual results and download a batch ZIP. Everything runs in your browser. EXIF and GPS are stripped by default. Targets may require fewer pixels; unreachable limits and larger outputs are reported.

    How to use this tool

    Choose your images
Drop or pick JPEG, PNG, WebP or AVIF files. AVIF input needs a browser decoder. A batch accepts up to 20 files, 20 MiB each and 80 MiB in total. Files with readable headers above 80 megapixels are refused before decoding. Corrupt and unsupported files show their own error.
    Set format and width
Choose a supported browser encoder and quality ceiling, or enable a target in decimal KB. The target search lowers quality, then dimensions, within a fixed work budget. PNG targets reduce dimensions because PNG quality is fixed. JPEG uses your chosen background. Images are not enlarged, and output is capped at 4 megapixels and 4096 pixels per side.
    Compare and download
Files run sequentially, in a worker where supported. Compare before and after with the slider and inspect per-file and total bytes. A larger output or missed target is labelled. EXIF and GPS are stripped by default; JPEG output can explicitly retain JPEG EXIF with updated orientation and dimensions. Animation and colour profiles are discarded. Results are limited to 64 MiB per batch. Download files or the ZIP.

    Questions before you start

No. File decoding, previews and compression happen locally in your browser. There is no image upload endpoint. Refreshing or leaving the page clears the selected images and results.

Reading AVIF and writing AVIF are separate browser capabilities. This tool offers AVIF output only when the canvas encoder returns an actual image/avif blob. An encoder that falls back to PNG is rejected.

No. A source that is already well compressed may get larger, especially when converted to PNG. Lower the quality for a lossy format or choose a smaller maximum width. Compare the actual file sizes and preview before replacing your original.

Smaller images can reduce transfer size, but delivery, layout and other assets also matter. The linked page speed checker measures server response and HTML delivery; it does not run a Lighthouse image audit.
