Glitch text generator

This glitch text generator stacks combining marks above, through and below your letters. Choose low, medium or high, turn positions on or off and copy the result.

Free, no sign-up. Everything runs in your browser, and nothing you type is sent.

Your text

Marks go on letters and numbers. Spaces, punctuation, emoji, line breaks and Chinese, Japanese or Korean characters stay clean.

Up to 16 marks per character, counting any already in your text.

Type some text to see it glitched.

Glitch text, also called Zalgo, adds Unicode combining marks to each letter. Pick low, medium or high and choose marks above, through or below. Shuffle draws a new pattern, and a cap of 16 marks per character keeps it pasteable. Screen readers may garble it, and some apps strip the marks or block the text.

How to use this tool

Set the intensity
Low adds up to five marks per letter, medium up to nine and high up to sixteen. Turn a position off to keep marks only above, through or below the letters. Spaces, emoji and line breaks stay clean.
Keep a pattern or shuffle it
The marks depend on a pattern number and the position of each letter, so the result does not jump around while you type. Press Shuffle for a new pattern.
Stay under the cap
No character gets more than 16 marks, counting any already in pasted text, and extra marks are dropped. The Unicode stream-safe text format allows at most 30 in a row, so 16 stays well inside that limit.

Questions before you start

Zalgo is a nickname for text covered in Unicode combining marks, the characters normally used for accents. A letter can carry several marks, so stacking many above, through and below it makes the text look corrupted while the letters stay in place.

Some sites and apps strip combining marks or block messages with long stacks of them. Try a lower intensity or fewer positions, and test the text where you plan to post it.

No. A screen reader may read out every mark, read the letters with odd accents or skip the word, and tall stacks can overlap nearby lines for sighted readers too. Keep names, links and instructions in plain text and use glitch text for a word or two of decoration.

X counts each of these marks as one character, so one letter at high intensity can count as up to 17. Check the X count under the result before you post.
