AI Overviews

AI Overviews are AI generated summaries that Google displays for some searches alongside supporting links. They aim to help users understand a topic and explore sources. Their appearance and linked pages vary by query. An AI Overview is a Google Search feature, separate from a response in the Gemini app or another assistant.

Why it matters for a business

Customers may encounter an explanation before reaching the usual website results. A business should make its service information understandable and check whether its pages are indexed. A result from an assistant test cannot establish whether that page appeared in an AI Overview.

Example and evidence

The AIGROW Index names the assistants used in its tests. Those rankings are not a measurement of Google AI Overviews. Use the Index to understand assistant recommendations and Google Search Console to inspect your own search traffic, keeping the two sources separate.

What to do next

Check indexing and snippet eligibility, publish helpful visible text and keep business details current. Google says no special AI markup is required. Inspect real search results for your market, remembering that one screenshot is only one observation.

Common question

No. The scan tests its supported assistants. It does not query Google’s AI Overview results. A crawler or schema check also cannot confirm that Google displays a page in an Overview.
