Each ad platform counts text its own way. Google Ads allows 30 characters in a headline and 90 in a description, counting Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters as two. Meta recommends lengths, such as 125 characters of primary text in Instagram Feed. LinkedIn cuts introductory text after 150 characters, and X counts each link as 23.

How to use this tool

Count the way each platform counts
Google Ads counts Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters as two. Microsoft Advertising also counts emoji as two. X weighs each link as 23 and most emoji as two, and TikTok leaves out spaces at both ends. The other platforms count characters as you see them.
Hard limits and recommended lengths
A hard limit is the most the platform accepts. A cut point is where the platform says text starts to be hidden, and a recommended length is what Meta's Ads Guide suggests. Each row says which kind it is and links to the platform page it comes from, checked on October 12, 2026.
See where it gets cut
For each placement where the text runs too long, the table shows the end of the part people see and the start of the hidden part, so you can move the words that matter to the front.

Questions before you start

Meta's Ads Guide gives recommended lengths per placement: 50 to 150 characters of primary text and a 27 character headline in Facebook Feed, and 125 characters of primary text in Instagram Feed. The table marks them as recommendations, since the guide publishes no exact cut point.

X weighs characters. Most Latin letters count one, Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters and most emoji count two, and every link counts as 23 whatever its length. The X row uses that weighted count against the 280 limit.

For responsive search ads the numbers match: 30 characters per headline, 90 per description and 15 per display path. Microsoft also counts emoji as double width, so an emoji uses two of those characters there.
