ROAS divides attributed revenue by advertising spend. Your margin sets the break-even return and the revenue needed for a profit goal. Add margin to calculate profit and ROI on ad spend, or convert ROAS and that ROI in either direction. All business inputs start empty.

Your inputs

Use your own campaign data. Business fields start empty. Inputs can be up to one trillion; use this language’s decimal separators. Currency follows the page language, without conversion.

Margin is optional for basic ROAS. Add it to calculate profit, ROI and break-even return.

Choose a change above zero and up to 100 percent. The table uses your value below and above the current input, holding other inputs constant. These are scenarios, not forecasts.

ROAS and ROI conversion

Convert a known ratio using your own margin. ROI here means profit after direct costs and ads, divided by ad spend. It can be negative and excludes fixed overhead and tax.

There is no universal good ROAS. Your margin determines the return needed to cover direct costs and advertising.

How to use this tool

Match the attribution window
Enter revenue attributed to the same campaign and period as the spend. Use revenue after refunds and discounts. To solve revenue, multiply spend by a known ROAS multiple; to solve spend, divide revenue by a positive ROAS multiple. Attribution rules can give different channels credit for the same sale.
Use margin before advertising
Gross margin is revenue left after the direct cost of the product or service, expressed as a percentage. Break-even ROAS = 1 / margin as a fraction. Fixed overhead, tax and other operating costs are outside this calculation.
Set an absolute profit goal
Target ROAS = (ad spend + desired profit) / (ad spend × gross margin fraction). The goal is money left after direct costs and this advertising spend. Zero spend or zero margin leaves some ratios undefined.
Keep the ROI denominator explicit
ROI on ad spend divides profit after direct costs and ads by advertising spend. It equals (ROAS × margin fraction - 1) × 100. Reverse it with ROAS = (1 + ROI / 100) / margin fraction. Total-investment ROI uses a different denominator. Vary your revenue in the sensitivity table while spend and margin stay fixed.

Questions before you start

Revenue above advertising spend can still leave a loss after product costs. Include gross margin when finding break-even. Fixed costs and tax may raise your actual target.

Use campaign-attributed revenue for campaign ROAS. Total business revenue divided by total advertising spend is a blended measure. State the scope when comparing the numbers.

No. Revenue return does not tell you profit after direct costs. Enter your margin to convert ROAS and ROI on ad spend in either direction. This calculation excludes fixed overhead and tax, so it is not total-investment ROI.
