Lesson 2 of 7

Check your starting point

Save a repeatable starting point before changing your website.

Begin with a recommendation question that never mentions your name. Record the exact question, date, assistant, location and whether web search was on. Save the answer, the businesses named and any source links. Then ask a separate branded question to check whether the assistant describes your business correctly.

A website scan and an assistant answer measure different things. The free scan checks your site and a sample of answers; the name checker works without a website. Neither is a census of all people using AI. An empty answer is a failed observation, not proof that every competitor is invisible.

A real example from the Index

The October 2026 Rome dentist page records 32 distinct names, 21 named only once. One answer would miss much of that variation. The count describes this sample and cannot estimate market share.
