Lesson 4 of 7

Fix your listings and citations

Correct old details on the sites your customers actually use.

A citation is a reference to your business elsewhere, often with its name, address and telephone. Start with profiles that real customers in your market use: a trade association, a local directory or a booking service relevant to your work. Check existing entries before creating more.

Keep your business identity consistent, correct old numbers and duplicate entries, and link to the right location page. The facts should agree. Punctuation can vary, but an old telephone number needs correcting. Do not buy a directory bundle simply because it promises AI visibility. An assistant citing a directory does not prove that a listing there will get you recommended.

A real example from the Index

The October 2026 Berlin electrician page lists gelbeseiten.de among the domains found in its answers. Check whether your customers use that directory before deciding to maintain a profile there. Its presence in these answers does not guarantee a mention.
