What a support ticket costs, AI against a person
Enter your ticket volume, how long one takes and what the person handling it costs. The calculator prices a ticket both ways, puts the two side by side, and works out how long the AI Support Agent takes to pay for itself.
Free and without sign-up. The arithmetic runs in your browser, so nothing you type is sent anywhere.
Everything that reaches support: email, chat, contact form, the same question twice.
Reading it, finding the answer and writing the reply. Handling time only.
Leave it empty to use $3,750, the typical loaded monthly cost for tier one. That is an anchor, not a measurement of your team.
Priced at our support reply workload: 3,000 tokens in, 400 out. Those counts are our assumption; the prices are Anthropic's own, read on 22 September 2026.

The person is priced at $21.65 an hour, the monthly cost over 173.2 paid hours, from the anchor above. Build $1,490 and $79 a month are the published prices of the AI Support Agent. The helpdesk licence, the hosting and the review of drafted replies are not in it.
1.6 months. How long the $1,490 build takes to pay for itself at 600 tickets a month.
Eight minutes of a support agent’s time costs $2.89 a ticket, using the $3,750 loaded monthly anchor. The model call is $0.0050, so tickets cost $1.16 each when AI closes six in ten alone. On 600 tickets a month the $1,490 build pays back in 1.6 months.
How the number is worked out
Every figure the calculator assumes is on this page, so the result can be checked with a pencil.
- The person
- The loaded monthly cost divided by 173.2 paid hours a month (40 hours a week, 4.33 weeks), times the minutes a ticket takes. Leave the cost empty and it uses $3,750, the typical loaded monthly cost for tier one support. That is an anchor, not a measurement of your team.
- The model call
- The support reply workload from our model pages, 3,000 tokens in and 400 out, times the list price of the model you pick. Those token counts are our assumption and they are printed on every page that uses them. Prices are the makers’ own, read on 22 September 2026.
- The blend
- Every ticket pays the model call, because the model reads every ticket. The share it cannot close alone also pays the person’s handling time. The default share of 60% is an assumption: measure yours from a month of resolutions before planning on it.
- The payback
- The build is $1,490 and the running cost is $79 a month, both published prices for the AI Support Agent. Payback is the build divided by the monthly saving after that $79. When the saving does not cover it, the result says there is no payback instead of showing a long one.
- What it leaves out
- The helpdesk licence, the hosting and the review time on drafted replies. It counts handling minutes only, so the hours between tickets are not in it, and a saving becomes cash only when those hours go somewhere else.
