How AI assistants recommend interior designers
Someone redoing a home who asks an AI assistant for an interior designer gets a few studio names, and a different few from the next assistant. Here is what they answered in every city the AIGROW Index asked, and what a studio can work on.
- Cities asked
- 88
- Names in the rankings
- 1,435
- Businesses named per city
- 44
- Names repeated on a rerun
- 37%
- Answers that name the leader
- 42%
The first two rows are counts; the rows under them are medians over the ranked pages. Every question was asked without a location or a chat history.
Asked for an interior designer in 88 cities, ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini named about 44 studios per city, and 61% of those names came up only once. Each assistant builds its list from what is published about a studio. What a studio controls is that public record: its projects, its style and its listings.
What a customer asked, and who came first
One place of the 88, as an example: New York. Every place was asked the same questions in its own language, and its page in the Index has the full ranking.
- Who is the best interior designer in New York?
- I'm redoing my apartment in New York. Which interior designer would you recommend?
- Which interior design studio in New York does modern homes well?
- Which interior designer in New York would you recommend for a restaurant or a shop?

What an owner can work on
No one can promise a place in an assistant’s answer. What an owner controls is what is published about the business, and these are the parts the questions above point to.
Homes and commercial apart
The questions ask for an apartment, a modern home and a restaurant or a shop. Say which of these you design, with a page and examples for each.
Name your style
One question asked for a studio that does modern homes well. Describe your style in words on your site, not only in photos, so an assistant can match it.
Projects with words
A project page that names the place, the brief and the result is something an assistant can describe, and so is a feature in a design magazine.
