How AI assistants recommend restaurant POS systems
A restaurant owner who asks an AI assistant for a point-of-sale system gets a few product names, and a different few in the next country. Here is what the assistants answered in every country the AIGROW Index asked, and what a product can work on.
- Countries asked
- 20
- Names in the rankings
- 184
- Products named per country
- 27
- Names repeated on a rerun
- 60%
- Answers that name the leader
- 94%
The first two rows are counts; the rows under them are medians over the ranked pages. Every question was asked without a location or a chat history.
Asked for a restaurant POS system in 20 countries, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok named about 27 products per country, and 49% of those names came up only once. Each assistant builds its list from what is published about a product. What a vendor controls is that public record: its features, its pricing and its reviews.
What a customer asked, and who came first
One place of the 20, as an example: United States. Every place was asked the same questions in its own language, and its page in the Index has the full ranking.
- What is the best POS system for a restaurant in the US?
- I'm opening a small restaurant in the US. Which point-of-sale system would you recommend?
- Which restaurant POS in the US handles table service and kitchen orders well?
- What is the best POS system for a café in the US?
- Toastnamed in 100% of the answers
- Squarenamed in 96% of the answers
- Lightspeednamed in 83% of the answers
The names that recur
15 different businesses came first across 20 rankings, and 22 names were listed in three places or more. These are the most frequent.
- Lightspeed13 places

- SumUp8 places
- TouchBistro6 places
- Lightspeed Restaurant5 places
- Zettle by PayPal5 places
Counted by spelling: two businesses with the same name in different places count as one.
What an owner can work on
No one can promise a place in an assistant’s answer. What an owner controls is what is published about the business, and these are the parts the questions above point to.
Describe the service you handle
One question asked for a system that handles table service and kitchen orders, another for a café. Pages that describe each kind of venue and how the system works there match those questions.
Say where you are sold
The names change by country. State which countries you sell and support in, with local payment and tax features, on your site and in every listing.
Prices in public
Hardware and subscription prices, published and current, and reviews on the comparison sites restaurant owners read, give an assistant facts it can repeat.
Every ranking for this trade
