How AI assistants recommend dentists

A patient who asks an AI assistant for a dentist gets a short list of practices, and a different list from the next assistant. Here is what they answered in every city the AIGROW Index asked, and what a practice can work on.

The first two rows are counts; the rows under them are medians over the ranked pages. Every question was asked without a location or a chat history.

Asked for a dentist in 88 cities, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok named about 45 practices per city, and 57% of those names came up only once. Each assistant builds its list from what is published about a practice. What a practice controls is that public record: its treatments, its reviews and its listings.

The questions

What a customer asked, and who came first

  3. Which dental clinic in New York is good for dental implants?
  4. I have a toothache and need an emergency dentist in New York. Who should I call?

What to work on

What an owner can work on

No one can promise a place in an assistant’s answer. What an owner controls is what is published about the business, and these are the parts the questions above point to.

A page for each treatment

The questions ask for check-ups, implants and emergencies by name. A page for each treatment you offer, saying what it involves and who does it, gives an assistant something to match each question to.

Say when you take emergencies

One question in four was a toothache that could not wait. State your emergency hours and how to reach you in the same words on your site, your Google Business Profile and every directory that lists you.

Reviews that name the treatment

A review that mentions an implant or a same-day appointment describes your practice in a patient’s words. Ask for reviews after the visit, and answer each one.

See what the assistants say about your business.

The free checker asks the questions a customer would ask and shows who gets named. The audit goes further: your own questions, four assistants, and the fixes in the order they matter.
